The Wedding Journey - Photographer and Videographer

Besides the venue and date, the 2nd most important thing for a wedding would be hiring a photographer. More ofthen than not, couples will either choose only photographer or photographer + videographer. As the saying goes, a picture paints a thousand words. Moreover on this special occasion we would really like the photogapher to capture the best moment and timeless expressions so that we can relive that memory of our wedding day again once it is over.

Same as the venue, a good photographer is normally booked way in advance. A decent photographer package can easily costs from RM2500 -RM6000 depending on how well known the photographers are and how many awards they have won. But to the both us, we definitely look at the style of photography which we deemed is more important. We even got a quote for only RM800 covering both days on separate weekends. But after looking at their porfolio which uses a beginner DSLR, I feel that Marcus can take better pictures than them! Haha...Well, it is good coz there is always a cheaper alternative for the less fussy.

After choosing for weeks and meeting several photographers, we have settled down on Darren Chong's team. Mind you that we are not hiring Darren himself as he can be quite costly. But we are settling for his senior photographers within his team which we feel that the portfolio is quite decent with a reasonable price.

Other photographer that we have also consider is Lighted Pixels from Singapore. If you have the budget, pls book them as I fell in love with their photos the moment I lay my eyes on it. But too expensive for a Malaysian I feel. Well, at least for us. :( The other photographer which we nearly hired is McCain I like his photography style too, but unfortunately he was already booked on 20.11.2011. And we met him up in January!

As for videographer, we have decided to go without it. The ones that we like, costs us about RM2k per event which is about additional RM4k. We rather take those money and go for a nicer honeymoon. But, if you have the budget do hire those videographer which does video in the cinematography way. The feel of the video is much better!

The Wedding Journey - Bridal Shoes (Part 1)

I am so exciteeed.... I just met up with my shoe designer and have got my custom made shoe designed! Truly delighted to meet Raymond (although he is a man of a few words but was friendly and with good service) last Saturday and roughly tell him on what type of shoes I desired. I know shopping for shoes can be quite a headache (from previous experience), hence I have been looking for shoes online.
I got his contact through the Malaysian Bride Forum and have added him on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/profile.php?id=100000360738230). I kinda like some of his shoes and downloaded the images to show it him.
The design is now finalised and if it's up to standard and comfortable, I will make another pair for my wedding dinner dress. *wink wink*
Shoes will be ready in 1 month's time.

P.S: It is a 4 inch heels.

The Wedding Journey - Statutory Declaration

We are currently progressing well in the wedding prep but the only thing that we are worried about is getting the date for the ROM. The date 11.11.11 is a mass wedding ceremony and would be quite difficult to obtain a place.
On May 12, we have successfully done the Statutory Declaration in JPN for the wedding forms. Initially, I thought it would be a long process but it was accomplished within 10 mins and the fee was only RM28!
Remember to get the right form, JPN-KCO2 for both single and not married! Next step is to submit the forms to Thean Hou Temple and wait in line to get a place on 11.11.11. *fingers crossed*

The Wedding Journey - Wedding Theme

When I first started my wedding prep, I have always wanted a theme for my wedding. It came easy to me at first as I thought I only needed it to be a coloured theme. My wedding coloured theme have changed several times to date!

1) Red & Gold - Dec - Jan
2) Champagne - Feb- March
3) Yellow and White - April till now

When I finally set the colour theme on yellow and white (as you can see from my previous post on Zhi Mui Dress), I thought that would be the final theme as I have bought my dinner gown in yellow! But NOOOOOOOO, the wedding hall deco does not have any yellow ribbon, table cloth and etc, the wedding card doesnt look as good as I imagined it to be in yellow and the Zhi Mui dresses are not even yellow anymore.

So now I gotta set a new theme or I would need to do without one. I am still scratching my head and Googling non stop on wedding themes. So, if there is any good ideas on themes, please feel free to leave me some comments. It need not to be in colour but can be a theme such as "The Oriental Night", "The Oscar Wedding", "The Bollywood Wedding" or any of those sort. Still looking for inspiration despite the fact that my Invitation Card would be out in 2 months time. Sigh!

The Wedding Journey - The Big "B"

To all couples who will be getting married/ just got engaged, I think the most important bit when it comes to wedding preparation would be the 'Budget'. This would be the first step that both couples need to determine before starting off their wedding planning. Be it a simple or a Hollywood make alike wedding.
Some couples tend to split the bills equally, others will rely solely on the guy and some really really lucky ones will have their parents sponsoring their dream wedding! I wish we fall into the latter category! Haha...I guess I would just have to continue dreaming.
Some of the more important things which we have looked at for our wedding are in the list below and the percentage of our budget falls within that category is shown below as well

1) Wedding band/ring - 25%
2) Photography - 20%
3) Wedding Attire (Including Gowns and Suits) - 20%
4) Ang Pau -10%
5) New Furniture - 10%
6) Honeymoon - ??? (whatever that is leftover I guess)

Be mindful that for every set aside, do allow some buffer as there are bound to be some ad-hoc expenses. We are only halfway through the wedding prep and still have another 6 more months to go. We are also looking for new funds to fund our wedding every month. It is a loooooong journey. Nevertheless, I am enjoying every single moment of it.

The Wedding Journey - Zhi Mui Dress

The quest to search for the perfect zhi mui dress have finally ended when I spotted a dress in Bangkok which I deemed fit for all my zhi muis! The initial plan was to buy a dress in yellow but after much hesitation from friends who refused on the colour of yellow and with me spotting this dress in Platinum Mall, I am officially changing the colour to pink!

The dresses are only RM28 coz I bought it in bulk! Was quite a deal as I know that dresses like this would costs at least RM50-RM80 in KL. Happy that I am not burdening them with this dress expense too! Yet to distribute the dresses to all of them.

Hope you girls will like it, and alter it to fit you! This dress can be wear in 3 different ways and do alter it to fit your body.

The Wedding Journey - Tai Kam Jie

Although Marcus and I are a pair of modern couple, there are many customary measures that we are unable to run away from and we dont mind doing it as well to show that we truly belong to the Chinese roots. Hahaha

There were several debates amongst our friends on whether we should hire a 'Tai Kam Jie' and the roles of one. Almost all Chinese wedding would need a Tai Kam Jie or known as Wedding Chaperon in English to be there. Based on other cousins wedding including my own sister, I realised that there is a need for a Tai Kam Jie but the person must at least fulfilled this few criterias:

1) Must be a flexible person which can adapt to changes
2) Pleasant looking
3) Quick thinking and observant
4) Able to help my mom and MIL with ad-hoc chores
5)Well versed in tradition and Chinese customary stuff

After much (not that I have alot of choices) consideration, we have hired a lady by the name of Doris who is also the Tai Kam Jie for KC (my cousin)'s wedding. Price is RM400 and we have paid RM100 as deposit.
Hope all goes well (lesson learnt from sis's wedding on hiring Tai Kam Jie).

For those who need to know who exactly is a Tai Kam Jie and what is their role, please visit this link (http://blog.wedding.com.my/archives/tag/dai-kam-jie)

Bangkok 2011

Apart from the photoshoot, this trip was initially planned with MF and Grace as part of a shopping and sight seeing cum relaxation trip (wonder how we can fit all that in 4 days). Despite taking a day off for my photoshoot, I managed to spend some quality time with the girls too!

Day 1: Upon arrival, we head straight to Chatuchak market! Spent the whole afternoon there and nearly killed ourselves from the heat and stuffiness. Tip: Bring a mini fan, if you ever wanna shop there and do go in the morning!

Day 2: Went to Patpong night market with the girls after the photo shoot. We see the real Bangkok city!

Day 3: Went to Floating market in Sadouk and visit the Grand Palace and went for Thai Massage at night.

Day 4: Shopping in Platinum Mall and then depart to KL

Just in time for the railway market, where we see all the stalls move aside in time for the train to pass!

Pre Wedding - Make Up and Attire Change

Pls watch closely how my makeup artist Ko transform me from a normal girl with dark eye bags to a bride (at least without obvious eyebags)

He started off with my hairdo in our hotel room.

He curled my hair before tying it up. I was seriously amazed at what he could do with my short hair!

Tada! Full make up and he still have not decide on what to do with the fringe since I have not decide on my wedding gown

Finally, he have decided on this style after I tried on a few gowns in Kob (photographer)'s house. Immediately he accesorise me without me even noticing it! Bravo!!

Changing my hairstyle for a more casual shot at the railway station

Again, he changed my hairstyle to suit my dress. Totally impressed with him!

Pre Wedding - Bangkok

We started the journey on 30th April and return home on 3rd May 2011. The plan was initially made with Ming Foong and Grace (my best buddies) for a vacation in Bangkok since last year.
After the proposal, Marcus decided that we should take this oppurtunity to do our pre wedding shots in Bangkok since our KL photo shoot only entitle us to 30 poses. After much research on Bangkok photographers and through introduction from a friend we have decided to hire The Perfection Wedding Studio.

The most time consuming bit throughout the whole process for this pre wedding photoshoot would be the selection of the venue as we are unfamilliar with the places in Bangkok. Most of the places that we choose initially is either too expensive (we need to pay for almost every place that we wanted to do a commercial shoot) and it was also labour day (1st May), hence most of the places were close.

After months of planning, we have decided to do our shoot in Buddha Monton Park, Bangkok Noi Railway and the streets in Bangkok.

And my verdict after the photo shoot? We totally enjoyed every single bit of it (luckily it stopped raining -else we would need to cancel our shoot) and we love the photos. We would like to thank the crew that help us out!

Our fun photo crew team! Thx guys!! Xoxoxo

The most attentive and caring make up artist! Thanks Ko....You rock. His presence ensure my prettiness throughout the shoot!

Gary Chaw - Count to Five Promise Me (Marcus sings this song to court me)

I feel nostalgic everytime I listen to this song. Will try to embed this song in our wedding dinner.

Train - Marry Me (Our Wedding Song)

This will definitely be 1 of our wedding songs.

The Wedding Journey - Wedding Gown and Dinner Dress

For those who are wondering whether I will be buying my own wedding gown or renting it from the bridal house, Marcus have decided to get me a wedding gown although it was not in the budget initially. We have bought the gown in February but being the fickle minded me, I decided that I no longer like the dress and the shop (D Glitters in Plaza Damas) must have full on experienced with brides to be like me coz the moment we paid for the gown, she told us that I can leave my gown in the shop until my wedding date is near in case I've changed my mind. The most amazing thing is that, they will even update me everytime there is new arrivals!

If the new gown that I like costs more than the initial one, I just need to top up the difference and if the new gown costs less, they will actually give me the money back in terms of credit. I can purchase other stuff from the shop as well. As they dont only sell bridal gowns but dinner dresses and even some casual dresses + accessories, I find that the deal was super worth it.

I recently just changed my gown and there were extra money for me to buy 2 more short dresses! I was so delighted as the dresses can be use for my pre wedding photo shoot and for my ROM as well. * wink wink*. I have also bought 2 additional dresses from D Glitters to support them coz of their good service.. Hehehe.
Oh, not to forget the dinner dress for my wedding dinner. I got it from there as well! A mermaid cut yellow dress. Absolutely splendid!

Joelynn - the lady in charge of the shop there is really helpful and friendly but indeed really difficult to make an appointment with her as she is always busy travelling.

I will upload the photos of the dresses when the time of my event draws closer.

The Wedding Journey - Shoes for Photo Shoot

Well well, apart from the wedding band, the wedding dress, the other thing which is hard to find/acquire is a pair of wedding shoes. My, I was just looking for a pair of cheap bridal shoes for my outdoor photo shoot in Bangkok.

Been shopping around for 3 weeks coz I have quite a specific budget for this pair of shoes which I reckon will only be used for once (or twice -inlcuding the photo shoot in KL).

Alas, Marcus came up with this brilliant idea! Why not go to Sungai Wang? Since I wanted some Bling Bling cheap shoes. And guess what? I finally found a pair which I thought was quite pretty to use it for outdoor! Haha.......But the comfort level of the shoes was definitely not up to mark. But who am I to complain when I only pay RM70 for this pair of shoes which is pretty enough for a photoshoot.

Apart from the bridal shoe, I also bought a pair of Bling Bling black heels from Zang Toi for my photoshoot which can definitely be use for other occassion after the photoshoot..

Well, I am quite satisfied with my purchases so far

The Venue & the Date

So after all the hassle on where and when to get married, the date and venue have finally been decided.

Date: 11.11.11 (ROM)
Venue: Thean Hou Temple

Date: 20.11.2011 (Wedding Ceremony a.ka Bride Fetching and Chum Cha Session)
Venue: Taman Wahyu & Taman Kepong

Date : 26.11.2011 (Wedding Reception a.k.a Wedding Dinner)
Venue: Mega View Banquet Hall KL Tower (http://www.malaysian-explorer.com/klTower.html)

It's finally decided and now I need to work towards the date to make sure that everything is done on time...Wish me luck..*wink*

Cambodia - Siam Reap

Our first trip as an engaged couple! We flew in to Siam Reap on a Friday morning and arrived at about 8 a.m in the UNESCO heritage city of Siam Reap and began our journey to the Angkor Archeological Park right away. We were greeted by our super friendly and uber nice driver - Sambo.

Since we are travelling alone this time, we took our time to capture some nice couple pics! Which I thought could be used as pre-wedding pics as well. Hehehe....

Meet The Parents

As part of the customary Chinese tradition, Marcus's parents are supposed to meet my parents to discuss on the wedding date and the dowry. Whilst they have met a couple of times on different ocassion, they have not met in such a formal environment before.
Well, thank God both our parents are cool and most stuffs have been discussed between Marcus and my parents. The visit from his family to my home was just a formality.
It went well, as the meeting did not last more than half an hour and everyone had a smile on their face. Phew! 1 done 10000000000 more tasks to go......
The journey to the wedding officially begins!

Golden Palm Tree Sepang

Our Xmas 2010 was spent in a very memorable place in Sepang.
