New Year's Eve

Either age is catching up or the companionship is too good that we decided we will just have a quiet countdown welcoming 2009 in our lives. Went for Mamma Mia on that night and I would say that we love the show. The songs, the acting, the music, everything about it. It was exactly like watching the movie except that this is a live show.

My first food for 2009 - Omega half boiled egg from Old Town

Had a simple 'yum cha' session with best buddies for New Year's eve

Cafe-Cafe

Cafe-cafe (http://www.cafecafekl.com/), one of the better restaurants that we have been too. We are thinking that it would be nice to hold a private function here. I quote from the website "Stepping into Café Café, one leaves the mundate streets of Kuala Lumpur and is immediately enthralled by its lavish interior; magnificent Occident in this part of urban Orient". Located along Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka, one would never thought a restaurant hidden by some trees, facing the roadside would have such wonderful ambience. You stepped into the restaurant, you stepped into a whole new dimension. The dessert is yummier than Mezza Notte and the service is excellent. As it was an impromptu thing, mind the blurry pictures (absence of the SLR camera).

Gonbei- Starhill, Twenty-One - Changkat

It was our first month anniversary back in November. All dressed up in our nice attire to dine in Mezza Notte (http://www.asianheritagerow.com/loft-mezzanotte.asp) , a place with lots of sweet memories for the past 3 years for both of us. What was not in our plan, is that Heritage Row is actually closed on Sunday. We really didn't bother checking it out as we often visit the restaurant and Loft, so we are quite certain that we are able to get a table. Devastated, we drove down to Bukit Bintang and after a long walk we decided to dine in Gonbei http://www.starhillgallery.com/relish-tenant.asp?tID=113 (opposite of Jogoya in Starhill). Salmon lovers, this is one of the best that we tried and it isnt't too pricey as compared to Zipangu in Shangri-La.

Wanted to take some night shots along the busy street, but the pics didnt turn up that well.
We ended up having dessert in Twenty-One (http://www.twentyone.com.my/) instead. The dessert there is mouth-watering yummy. The ambience is very comfortable too.

Palate Palette

Palate Palette, a very famous hang out place for all artist and interior designers is located at Jalan Mesui off Jalan Nagasari. Been there a couple of times, we quite like the ambience there if it's not too crowded. Just 2 doors down is NBT - famous for its live band. Palate Palette can be quite packed at night during weekends. Was there on 1 of the weekdays to try out their dinner and we decided that it was a bit pricey for the type of food we had. Some pics to share on the exterior of the restaurant.

Christmas's Eve Dinner 2008

Hidden in Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, behind Avenue K, there's this restaurant called Smoked House. We went there for our Christmas's Eve dinner as Marcus's love the environment and the big bungalow turned restaurant feel. Only to find out that the restaurant will be in operation till end of 2008 and thereafter will shift to Bangsar Shopping Centre. We felt that it was such a waste as we assumed most people visit because they love the ambience in the restaurant. The smokehouse restaurant was originated from Fraser's Hill apprently (http://www.thesmokehouse.com.my/fh.htm). Our menu for the night are as follows:

"Victorian" Egg-Nog

Baked Portabello Mushroom with Stuffing with Red Wine Reduction

Root Cellar Soup Turkey Ham
Cranberry Sorbet

MAIN COURSE

Malacca - Jonker's Street

After checking in to the hotel, I was feeling dizzy and we napped till evening as it was raining. Mind you, that Malacca was flooded on the same day. HUnt for food just opposite the hotel and found chicken rice. Though not that yummy and it was not chicken ball rice, but was enough to filled our growling stomach. Thereafter, we waited till the rain stopped and head down to Jonker's. Was pretty amazing and the road was super packed. Malacca is actually quite nicely lit up at night.
Bought this sunnies for only RM10. Bought like 4 pairs of ear rings. Quite cheap and nice. Also, my first necklace accessories here too! Went for beer after spending almost 2 hours on Jonkers. It tastes so good after a long walk.
Malacca at night. Truly beautiful!

Malacca

After PD we decided to head down to Melaka for a daytrip but due the jam, we were kinda like 'forced' to stay for a night as I was unwell. Almost all the hotels in Melaka were fully booked, so we just jumped into the first hotel that available along the way. We stayed in Hotel Orkid http://www.hotelorkidmelaka.com/wt-home.php in Melaka. Wouldn't really recommend it for the price that I was paying on that day. Partly due the public holiday and Melaka was recently named the Heritage Town by Unesco, thus explain the hotel prices. I paid RM250 for the simple room that we stayed in. Here are some photos on the 2nd day after the famous Melaka chicken ball rice.

Got this top off at Jonker the night before coz I ran out of clothes to wear as this is an unplanned stay.

Stop by for coffee before heading back to KL
